The Golf Academy
The Golf Academy is combination of swing analysis and athletic performance training, as recommended by the Titleist Performance Institute (TPI). The Golf Academy is a collaboration between Golf Pros at the Windsor Golf Club (WGC) and Rooster Run Golf Club (RRGC) and Head Trainer Cary Hiner at Absolute Athlete. It is a one-hour weekly class that combines 1-on-1 swing analysis and small-group athletic performance training. Swing analysis helps identify areas to address with corrective exercise, while corrective exercise unlocks the body for an easier, healthier, and more powerful golf swing. Rotating between swing analysis and athletic performance training on the golf course keeps the workout engaging, dynamic, and fun.
Most golfers understand the importance of basic knowledge of swing mechanics - you have to know the fundamentals of a proper golf swing in order to perform it consistently and powerfully. Less understood is the role of the neuromuscular system in allowing and consistently reproducing a powerful golf swing. Muscle tightness can create areas of tension that inhibit rotation and extension. Muscle laxity or muscles firing in improper sequence can produce inconsistent results, even utilizing the same basic mechanics. The desire to conform to an idealized model of of the golf swing can force the body into painful positions that cause long-term injuries.
Performance training with Cary Hiner is focused on lengthening, activating, and integrating the neuromuscular system to establish proper swing sequence and allow for greater range of motion and enhanced power throughout the swing. Our personalized approach starts with the identification and correction of underactive and overactive muscles resulting in the body not being able to support itself appropriately, such as tightness in hips/low back/hamstrings/shoulders/neck/chest etc. that inhibits the natural golf swing. In the Golf Academy, athletes learn specialized routines that train the mind and body to react and seek balance for optimal leverage and body position. Our dynamic warm-up increases efficiency of movement to eliminate wasted energy and maximize technique.
